Nairobi - President William Ruto has announced that the Kenya Kwanza administration was considering abolishing visa requirements while travelling to Kenya.

During the official opening of the Africa Climate Summit on Monday, September 4, Ruto said asking about one of the requirements when they were coming home was unfair.

"We are having a conversation as Kenyans because it is unfair to ask anybody coming home for visas," President Ruto said.

President Ruto has been at the forefront, urging African countries to permanently scrap visa requirements for their African citizens.

Recently, the president scrapped the visa requirements for Indonesian nationals coming into the country.

This was the third country within that month that the government announced it would enjoy visiting the country visa-free.

Ruto had already scrapped visa requirements for Senegal and Comoros nationals, arguing that it would spur trade between the countries.,

Govt acquires new printers, CS Kindiki discloses

In other news, the Directorate of Immigration Services acquired new printers to expedite the passport application process that has recently been impeded by faulty machines.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki said the government was committed to clearing the department backlog and streaming services from now on.

"As we work to address with finality, the production challenges through the acquisition of modern printing machines," Kindiki said.

The CS added that more staffers had been stationed to help clear the pending passport application processes.

"We have recruited additional immigration officers and improved the department’s infrastructure; all efforts and manpower has been deployed to clear the passport processing backlog within 14 days," the Interior CS added.

This came days after a quartet of people suspected to constitute a syndicate defrauding passport applicants was arrested.
