Nairobi City: Former Player Promised Lucrative Job Opening In Malaysia Stranded, Now Living In Streets

• This is after the Ivorian man who promised him a lucrative opening reneged on the promise and left him stranded abroad
• Agesa's visa already expired, now he lives on the streets and survives on alms from some Nigerians and well-wishers
• He owes the Malaysian government an outstanding fine of KSh 60,000 for overstaying

Davis Agesa, a former Nairobi City Stars player whose contract ended the year 2021 is stuck in Malaysia with no way to move ahead or come back home.

Agesa was taken abroad a by an Ivorian agent who promised to get him a team that would revive his football career.

Agent abandoned

Sports journalist Siaji Otieno, who brought the issue up, told TUKO.co.ke that the sportsman was told to raise funds for the air ticket and travel.

With an opening that would bring him back seemingly nigh, he convinced his family members to contribute towards the ticket and he was able to travel.

"When he arrived in Malaysia, things took a dramatic turn as the Ivorian agent started taking him in circles, lying that the contract was not ready," Siaji said.

That was the beginning of problems for Agesa as he was left stranded with no club nor money for a ticket back home.

Visa expired, living on streets

It has now been two months since the young player's Visa expired, meaning he is on Overstay and will be required to pay a fine of KSh 60,000 to the Malaysian government before exiting.

"Failure to do so he is risking being arrested and a jail term. Currently he is on the streets and survives on help from some Nigerians and well-wishers," Siaji continued.

The silver lining in Agesa's case is that his return ticket is still valid and only requires a small change-of-travel fees yet to be confirmed.

His hope now lies in raising funds to pay the Overstay fine and change his travel dates then return home.

"He tried going to Kenyan embassy in Malaysia and they told him his case is not the first one because they have so many similar cases and they can only facilitate his transport to the airport," Siaji concluded.

Kenyan students stranded in Finland

In an earlier story, 15 Nandi county students were left stranded abroad after the government failed to pay KSh 13.5m fees arrears.

It all started when the Nandi county government sponsored several students to pursue nursing and medicine studies in Finland.

However, tuition and other expenses for the students at the Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT delayed.

They were locked out of class due to KSh 13.5 million fee arrears.
