Akombe claimed it was a tough pill to swallow seeing those behind his murder walking free, adding that justice will one day be served.

"It has been six years since they brutally tortured and murdered you, my staff, Chris Msando. Sometimes it feels unfair to see those behind the brutal murder & their enablers roam around freely. But we know that justice will be served someday as we celebrate you as a shujaa for electoral justice and good governance. Continue resting in power," she wrote.

Akombe flees Kenya

Akombe resigned from her position as a commissioner of the IEBC during a time when the country was in a crisis following the Supreme Court's nullification of the 2017 presidential election.

She cited threats to her life as the primary concern that led her to flee to exile to New York, United States of America.

After exiting the commission, she landed a senior role at the United Nations Department of political affairs.

Akombe makes silent return to Kenya

In February 2021, Akombe silently returned to the country days after posting tweets considered controversial by some quarters regarding the electoral malpractice that played out in 2017.

She further ruffled feathers when she offered to testify on the brutal murder of former ICT manager Chris Msando.

In a tweet, the former commissioner insinuated Msando was sold out to his murderers by his own colleagues at the electoral body.

In a screenshot of an email she purportedly received from Chiloba, Akombe said the former CEO had warned against "trying to rewrite history".

On several occasions, Akombe claimed she had received death threats from unknown people following a series of sensitive tweets she shared on her handle.

The outspoken scholar said she had secured her evidence and that "the truth shall live on" even if her tormentors succeeded in eliminating her.
