Philanthropist Sammy Ondimu Ngare has embarked on a charity mission to uplift the life of a 60-year-old blind man from Aunga village, Sengera ward in Kisii county.

This is after he got wind of the heartbreaking fact that the old man named Kefa Manyoni Moembu has been living in a dilapidated house.

Photos on his page show that Mzee Kefa had been forced to sink a small hole in the middle of the house where he slept in place of a bed.

Ondimu disclosed that the old man's wife and kids deserted him, leaving him to wallow in loneliness and hopelessness.

The silver lining on the sad case is that the old man owns a piece of land, only that he is unable to do much with it given his condition.

It is for this reason that he figured the best way to help is to raise funds from members of the public through which he would build a new house for Mzee Kefa.

Ondimu's initial target was KSh 100k

He indicated that it is prudent to come through for such needy cases instead of waiting for leaders who may never come forth to help.

"Friends, we have always done this and I know we can do it. Your KSh 100, KSh 200, KSh 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 can do a very big job," he requested.

From the onset, Ondimu's target was to raise between KSh 100,000 and 120,000 out of which he would put up a new structure for the elderly man.

He also promised to launch a search in where Mzee Kefa's children are given that its been a while since he saw them.

Well-wishers contributed towards course

Hours after Ondimu sent out the plea, well-wishers got on board the course and contributed more than had been anticipated.

"You are the special type of people that changes lives, lifts people up, and makes the world a better place. Thank you for your donation and your association with my cause," Ondimu said gratefully.

He was moved by how the social media followers heard the call for help and answered it magnificently.

Given that he received more than the reserve figure, he explained that he will not only build a house but a new pit latrine as well.

"For that reason, inaanza kuchimbwa this morning na after two or three days tuijenge," he concluded.

Ondimu bought uniforms for schoolgirl

In another philanthropic deed, well-wishers led by Ngare bought uniforms and shoes for the girl whose uniform was torn in school and had to be mended by her teacher.

It also emerged that the girl studies far from home, and walking alone to and from school made her vulnerable to danger.

The cop was at the forefront in helping the young girl secure sponsorship to the boarding wing of her school.
