Nairobi - Nandi senator Samson Cherargei has been thrown out of the Senate sitting over gross misconduct.

How long will Cherargei be out of chambers

Speaker Amason Kindiki, on Tuesday, August 29, ordered the sergeant-at-arms to forcefully eject the senator out of the chambers after he defied his orders.

"Sergeant-at-arms, kindly use the necessary force under standing order 126 to get the senator out," Kingi said.

There was a standoff at the Senate chambers after the outspoken Nandi senator defied orders issued by the Speaker.

Cherargei became unruly after Senate Minority Leader and Kilifi senator Stewart Madzayo called him a 'kid' during his submission.

The Nandi senator started shouting in the chambers, demanding Madzayo to apologise for his allegedly demeaning remarks.

Speaker Kingi pleaded with Cherargei to sit down and allow the House to proceed, but he insisted Madzayo withdraw his statements before he could cool down.

"If you do not sit down and keep quiet, I will be forced to get you out of the chambers," the Speaker warned.

The Nandi senator, who was furious, said the House should be respected, saying he could not sit down before an apology was issued.

"I am not sitting down until he apologises Mr. Speaker. This House must be respected. We are not children. I will not sit down," Cherargei said before he was ejected out of the chambers for the rest of the sitting.

What happened to Gloria Orwoba?

Meanwhile, nominated senator Gloria Orwoba cleared the air on her reported suspension from the Senate.

Speaking to journalists at the Eldoret Sports Club during the ongoing devolution conference, Orwoba denied being suspended from the House.

"I’m not suspended that is why I am here. I know you reported that I was suspended but that is not true," Orwoba said.

The vocal senator who was chosen by the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in 2022 to represent women said there was a motion to suspend her, but it was defeated.

"Let me make it clear once again that I am not suspended. Otherwise, I would not be here. This is a precinct of Parliament. To clear the air, I am very active and I continue to fight for women’s rights," she explained.
