Why Kenya experiences nationwide blackout

Tanzania's power interruption announcement came after several parts of Kenya were hit with a blackout on Friday, August 24.

In a statement, the monopoly electricity distributor noted it experienced a system disturbance at 9:45pm leading to the loss of bulk power supply to various parts.

On Saturday, August 26, morning, KPLC confirmed it had restored electricity to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi and the Mt Kenya regions. However, other parts were still affected by the power loss.

"Our teams are working to restore electricity to all areas across the country that were affected by the outage. We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience," KPLC stated.

Why Kenya experienced blackout in May

In May, another blackout rocked most parts of the country. KPLC attributed the outage to a system disturbance.

Reports indicated that the outage was caused by a fault on the Suswa-Loyangalani high-voltage power transmission line, Kenya Power said.

Kenyans took to social media to vent their frustrations following the nationwide power outage. Kenyans would, however, not keep calm, choosing to explode on the company, accusing it of incessant flaws that lead to such events as national blackout.
