Vihiga - Luanda residents have awakened to a bizarre incident after thieves broke into Emukhuyu Salvation Army and Emukhuyu Pentecostal Assemblies of God Church PAG churches.

The gang raided the church, making away with property of unknown value that included electric cables and curtains.

However, the locals were surprised to discover that the gang prepared a meal in the church compound before escaping.

The gang broke the flag post in one of the churches, stole maize from the church's grain and roasted it using the flag post as firewood.

Joyce Anzaye, a church leader at Emukhuyu Salvation Army, said they were surprised by the incident that also saw the thugs steal the clothing used to cover the altar.

"We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at the church. Some individuals broke into the church at night and committed disturbing acts. They vandalised the electrical wires, took down the flag pole, and started a fire inside the church, roasting some maize,"Joyce said.

Church members condemn act

Members of the church have condemned the actions of the thieves, warning that it would bring curses upon them and their children.

One of the church members opined that it would have been better for the thugs to look for various odd jobs rather than stealing from the church.

They urged the youths to change their ways and repent from such evil deeds before they are caught up with them.

"We pray that our children who engage in such behaviour to change. If they do these things at church, they will do them at home, and they may even harm someone," said another resident.

Thugs disappear with church equipment

In a similar story, thieves broke into a Catholic Church in Ol-Joro Orok sub-county, Nyandarua, and made away with equipment worth over KSh 170,000.

The robbers stormed the church on the night of Saturday, July 16, and stole a keyboard, tables and other valuables.

According to church official Gerald Gituta, the robbers entered the church building using crude weapons.

The youths had arrived at the church premises to prepare for the Sunday, July 17 service only to find the instruments missing.
