A woman has ignited massive reactions after criticising people eating tripe (matumbo).

The lady, who goes by the username Wanjiru on TikToker, labelled the dish as garbage.

Notably, the edible lining from the stomachs of animals such as cows has a long history as a culinary delicacy across diverse cultures.

The young lady also questioned how anyone could willingly choose to consume it.

"Why would someone with a sane mind, and 32 teeth willingly go to a butchery, buy this takataka (garbage) with their own money, cook and eat it as if everything is okay?" Wanjiru posed.

She added:

"It looks like a sweater and it is garbage. I saw someone gobble it in three minutes and I am traumatised on their behalf. Abolish."

Netizens defend matumbo

Wanjiru's post attracted comments from defenders of the dish, who argued that tripe is so delicious.

Elsewhere, a video about someone cleaning tripe using a modern house appliance went viral.

In the TikTok video, the TikToker said her older sister did not feel like washing the matumbo by hand, so she used the washing machine instead.

Netizens were not shy about expressing their opinions about the random food prep hack.

Many people also cracked jokes about the idea, not convinced it was good.
