How did MPs respond to Atheists' demand

In a statement on Wednesday, May 29, the society revealed that they had been invited to the annual event at Safari Park Hotel.

They welcomed the move by the Chepkonga-led organising community, terming it unprecedented in Kenyan history.

Harrison Mumia, president of the Atheists in Kenya Society, told TUKO.co.ke that the moves show the National Assembly recognises people of different beliefs.

"This is unprecedented; we've never seen this kind of thing happening before. So, the leadership committee of the Atheist in Kenya Society met today to discuss this invitation, and we agreed that it was a very welcome gesture by parliament because this is an event organised by Kenya's parliament.
It is a welcome gesture that parliament recognises that Kenya has people who are diverse from diverse beliefs, atheists being one of them. Inviting us is a good gesture by the parliament. What this means is that parliament is saying even though we are praying for the nation, we want all Kenyans to be part of this event," Mumia stated.

Mumia reiterated that Article 27 of the constitution clearly states that no Kenyan shall be discriminated against based on religion.

What will Atheist do at prayer breakfast

Mumia stated that the society's executive leadership had picked him to represent them at the event.

He revealed that he would ask President William Ruto to publicly recognise their presence in the country.

"I'll be there and will seek to ask the president to publicly recognise that atheists are part and parcel of the Kenyan community and want the parliament to engage us more on matters affecting the country," Mumia added.

In other news, Mumia begged Kenyans to help raise rent.

He said generous contributions from well-wishers would enable their office operations to proceed smoothly.

Netizens poked fun at the request, stating that the society should turn to God.
