Ezra Chiloba Cleared By EACC In CA Staff Mortgage Scandal: "There Was Insufficient Evidence"

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has exonerated former Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) Director General Ezra Chiloba of the allegations brought against him.

Chiloba had been accused of mishandling the KSh 622 million staff mortgage scheme, resulting in his abrupt suspension from the position in September 2023.

Additionally, the suspension letter accused the former CEO of the Communications Authority and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of conflict of interest and abuse of his office.

In a statement dated April 4, EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak stated that the anti-corruption body did not uncover adequate evidence to substantiate the guilt of Chiloba and other authority officials regarding the allegations.

"The investigation established that there was insufficient evidence to support the allegation against Ezra Chiloba and other officials of the authority. The matter was closed with no further action pursuant to Section 25A of the of the ACECA of 2003. We recommend that the Authority reviews its human resource policy and procedure manual," said Mbarak.

Chiloba vetted as Kenya's Consul General to USA

Days after his clearance, the former IEBC CEO was vetted by the parliamentary vetting committee as Kenya's Consul General to Los Angeles, USA.

He was nominated for the role by President William Ruto five months after he resigned as the CAK's general manager.
