During the specified period, consumers can expect a notable decrease in the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices.

What are the new fuel prices in Kenya?

Specifically, the maximum retail price for super petrol will decrease by KSh 5.31 per litre, while diesel and kerosene will witness reductions of KSh 10 per litre and KSh 18.68 per litre, respectively.

This means that in Nairobi, petrol, diesel, and kerosine prices will be KSh 193.85, KSh 180.38, and KSh 170.06, respectively.

Kenyan motorists and households can anticipate the implementation of these revised maximum retail prices from April 15, 2024, through May 14, 2024.

Factors that affected changes in oil prices

These adjustments come in the wake of changes in the average landed cost of imported petroleum products, which led to varying changes in the prices of different products.

"The average landed cost of imported super petrol increased by 4.86% from US$703.49 per cubic metre in February 2024 to US$737.69 per cubic metre in March 2024; diesel increased by 0.003% from US$722.49 per cubic metre to US$722.51 per cubic metre while kerosene decreased by 0.69% from US$730.35 per cubic metre to US$725.31 per cubic metre," EPRA said in a press release.

This announcement comes as welcome news for consumers, offering a reprieve from previous price levels and potentially alleviating the financial burden associated with transportation and household energy expenses.

Fuel prices in March

The recent reduction in fuel prices follows a notable reduction that was announced in March.

Specifically, super petrol prices decreased by KSh 7.21 per litre, diesel by KSh 5.09 per litre, and kerosene by KSh 4.49 per litre.

The announced reduction in March and April is significant compared to the decrease in KSh 1 for the three petroleum products, which was announced for the period between February 15 and March 14.
