A woman from Lambwe, Homa Bay county, has shared an amazing story about her donkey, which she named after President William Ruto.

The woman, identified as Beatrice Akinyi Otieno, explained that the donkey's birth coincided with President Ruto’s inauguration, inspiring its name.

The farmer believes in starting her day by warmly greeting the donkey, a practice she feels encourages its friendliness.

"When I wake up in the morning, I have to greet it first. You have to greet it to make it friendly. I named it Ruto because it was born during Ruto's inauguration," she said in an interview with Citizen Digital.

How donkey named Ruto is helping Homa Bay farmer

Beatrice, who is 32 years old, relies heavily on the donkey, affectionately called Ruto, for various tasks.

"I bought its mother, and the mother died and left me with the offspring (Ruto). This donkey helps me a lot. I use it to fetch water from far rivers. I can use it to carry firewood, and it is very useful during harvesting. I can't survive without the donkey because the distance where we get water from is too long. I'm a farmer, and I can't practice farming without water," she said.

On Tuesday, August 9 2022, an expectant, Emily Maiyo, showed up at the Kosachei Primary School, where she cast her vote; Ruto also voted at the school.

Ruto was later declared the winner in the presidential election, and Maiyo immediately named her son "William Ruto".
