Nairobi - Former late president Daniel Arap Moi's daughter, June Chebet Moi, has passed away.

How old was June Chebet Moi?

The family of the late president announced that June died on Thursday, April 11, aged 60 years.

The family requested privacy from Kenyans as they mourn their loved one.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing on of our beloved, June Chebet Moi this morning. At this time of grief, we request for your prayers and privacy as we the family come to terms with the tragic loss of our sister. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” a family spokesman said without providing more details.

Who is June Chebet Moi?

In the statement, the family did not disclose what might have led to June's untimely death.

June Chebet, Moi’s last-born daughter, was adopted by the late president at a young age.

She attended the Nairobi Primary School and later proceeded to Kenya High School for her secondary education before moving to Canada to pursue her university education.

The former president had seven biological children: Jennifer Chemutai Kositany, Doris Elizabeth Chepkorir, Jonathan Moi, Raymond Moi, Philip Moi, John Mark Moi, and Gideon Moi.

How Daniel Moi's eldest son died

The former president also lost his eldest son, Jonathan Toroitich in April 2019.

The 62-year-old Jonathan, a former celebrated rally driver, took his last breath at a Nakuru hospital.

Interestingly, the retired sportsman died on Easter weekend, a time he would wow Kenyans in the racing tracks back in the day.

In 1997, he was ready to tangle with the best and did this with military precision finishing fifth in the Safari Rally and winning the Kenya National Rally Championship.
