NTV reported that the two undercover officers, attached to Spring Valley Police Station, were conducting an operation within the city when the incident happened.

The officers were on a routine patrol along Kitusuru Road when they spotted a suspected notorious thug riding a motorcycle and decided to chase him.

They trailed the suspect and managed to intercept him at the Red Hill area to arrest him.

Why KDF soldiers assaulted a police officer at Kabete

While interrogating him, three KDF soldiers manning the Kabete Barracks attempted to rescue the suspect despite the officers introducing themselves.

“They trailed the motorbike to Waiyaki Way and managed to intercept it at the Red Hill area. While they were still interrogating the suspect, three military soldiers manning Kabete Barracks intervened with the intention of rescuing the suspect from the police officers even after the officers introduced themselves,” a police report filed at Springs Valley Police Station read.

One police officer was assaulted and sustained injuries on the right leg and was rushed to South B Hospital.

During the drama, more KDF officers arrived and forcefully left with the suspect into the Kabete Barracks, prompting the two police officers to call their bosses, who rushed to the scene.

The police officers then decided to leave the scene as they did not want a confrontation to take place.

How KDF and police reconciled in Mombasa

In a related development, on Monday, April 29, the senior officers drawn from the KDF and National Police Service held a reconciliation meeting over the Likoni incident.

Following the meeting, the two wrangling sides resolved their differences and vowed to continue working together going forward.

In a video shared by NTV, the reconciliation meeting between KDF, NPS, private security guards and the Kenya Ferry Services and Kenya Ports Authority officials was held at the Likoni crossing channel where the confrontation took place.
