Kenya Power has issued a crucial reminder to its prepaid customers regarding an impending system upgrade that will temporarily halt the purchase of electricity tokens.

The upgrade is set to take place from 10pm on Sunday, June 2, 2024, to 10pm on Monday, June 3, 2024.

During this period, the prepaid token vending system will be unavailable, and Kenyans will not be able to purchase prepaid power tokens.

What Kenyans should do before the upgrade

In an official customer alert dated Monday, May 27, 2024, Kenya Power emphasised that the system upgrade is essential for improving service delivery.

In the alert, Kenya Power advised customers to purchase sufficient electricity tokens before the system downtime to avoid any inconvenience.

"We wish to inform our customers that the prepaid token vending system will be unavailable from 10 pm, Sunday, June 2, to 10 pm Monday, June 3, to enable us to upgrade our systems for improved service delivery," read a part of the earlier statement by Kenya Power.

During the upgrade period, customers will not be able to buy electricity tokens through any vending points, including Kenya Power offices, the M-PESA Paybill number 888880, Airtel Money, and various banking channels.

The company expressed appreciation for customer understanding and cooperation during this necessary upgrade period.

Safaricom advises customers to buy enough tokens

As earlier reported on TUKO.co.ke Safaricom, being Kenya Power's largest vendor of electricity tokens, took the initiative to remind its customers of the planned system upgrade to avoid inconveniences.
