Police have launched investigations after a Kenyan student was found dead at Kampala International University (KIU) Western campus.

The Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson, Marchil Tumusiime, said the student, identified as Isaac Otieno Ochola, aged 33, was found dead in the hostel on Saturday, May 11.

The Monitor reported that the deceased was pursuing a master's degree in International Medicine.

According to the police report, Ochola's body was discovered on Saturday after neighbours were troubled by a foul smell and flies coming from his room.

"The deceased was doing a master's degree in International Medicine and staying at Hannington Hostel in the Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality.
They alerted the private security guard at the hostel and he also informed the police. Our officers visited the scene and recorded statements from the neighbours and then conveyed the body to KIU Teaching Hospital Mortuary for postmortem," Tumusiime said.

Neighbours said when police broke into his room, they found different medicines.

"When we broke into his room together with the police, we found different kinds of medicines like pethidine hydrochloride injections, Clonazepam, and syringes were placed on a table near the bed, The decomposing body was well-dressed," a neighbour said.

Police recovered documents showing that the deceased had a psychiatric disorder and was on different treatment.

What Faith Musembi's family said

Meanwhile, the family of Faith Musembi, a Mount Kenya University student, is demanding justice after she was found murdered.

Her father discovered Faith's lifeless body at her rented house in Pilot Estate, Thika Town, on Thursday, May 9.

Addressing the media on Saturday, May 11, the family said a postmortem conducted on Faith's body indicates she died because of excessive bleeding.
