Kimani Ichung'wah Calls For Purchase Of New Presidential Jet After Fatal Military Chopper Crash

Nairobi: Majority leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung'wah has petitioned the state to procure state-of-the military equipment.

This follows the tragic aircraft crash in which the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) chief general Francis Ogolla and nine others perished.

The ill-fated helicopter was a Bell Huey II, made in the United States.

Bell Huey II is an upgraded version of the Bell UH-1H Multi-mission medium helicopter.

Speaking in parliament, Ichung'wah observed that the equipment in the country's secuity aparatus are outdated given that some of them were acquired in the 1980s and that they cannot put up with the demanding security missions at this moment.

The Kikuyu MP said it was time the parliament considered budgetary allocations for the country's defence.

"As we consider the next few years' budgets, let's seriously consider modernisation of all our military equipment including the aircraft we use, not only in the military but also in the police. Including the presidedial jet, which was purchased in late or early 1980's by the late Daniell Moi," said Ichung'wah.
