The late musician Gibson Kioi Wairimu, aka Kioi Junior, who died after falling ill, has been buried in a Christian ceremony despite his passionate belief that there is no God.

Where is Kambiti village?

Kioi appeared on radio stations and debated a lot with radio presenters, and in other interviews, he shared reasons why he thought there was no God.

During his burial ceremony held at his home in Kambiti, Murang'a county, there were pastors who were dressed in white and purple robes who led the ceremony and preachers who had just come to mourn him.

Despite his upbringing in a religious environment, Kioi publicly identified as an atheist in 2020. He questioned the existence of God and Satan, attributing his atheism to critical thinking and scepticism.

“I live as if there is no God and I don’t think people should lie to themselves. All I need is proof that either God or Satan exists. Faith is ignorance," he previously said in an interview with a Kikuyu radio station.

All the symbols associated with Christianity, such as the cross complete with his name, and singing hymns at the ceremony and at the graveside, were all present.

Kioi passed away on April 29, at the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment.
