The village of Karia is in mourning following a tragic incident where a building under construction collapsed, resulting in the untimely death of a middle-aged woman.

According to a relative of the deceased, Edward Muriuki, the woman was asleep with her two children when the tragedy occurred.

Upon receiving the alert, police officers swiftly arrived at the scene and focused their inquiry on both the owner and contractor responsible for the building's construction, as reported by Citizen Digital.

“I would like to assure you that we are going to investigate this incident as we wait for the owner of the building and if we find he violated the stipulated rules of construction action will be taken,” said Kirinyaga Central police commander John Torori.

Further details emerged from Muriuki, who revealed that his sister-in-law had previously sold a piece of land to a trader who owns the collapsed building.

He clarified that while the two children were rescued from separate rooms, their mother's bedroom was the one bordering the collapsed structure.

The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, leaving the community seeking answers.
