KWS Urges Nairobians To Stay Vigilant As 3 Stray Lions Roam City: "Monitoring Situation"

• The Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) called on Nairobi residents to be on the lookout for a runaway trio of lions roaming the city
• The agency said the animals were first spotted near the Lang'ata Women's Prison on the evening of Wednesday, May 15
• A special team would later be dispatched to locate the animals but without success, prompting the KWS to put the members of the public on notice

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has urged residents in Nairobi to be vigilant as three stray lions stroll through the city.

KWS cautions Nairobians

The agency said the trio of carnivores were first sighted near the Lang'ata Women's Prison on the evening of Wednesday, May 15.

The Problem Animal Control team was deployed to search for the animals throughout the night but failed in its mission.

No recovery of the trio was made, KWS said in a statement on Thursday.

''In response, the KWS Problem Animal Control team promptly mobilized and conducted a thorough search of the area throughout the night. Despite their efforts, no lions were found,” read the KWS statement.

The KWS counselled Nairobians to be alert as they go about their businesses and quickly report any sightings.

“KWS continues to monitor the situation closely and remains on high alert. Ensuring the safety of the public is our top priority. We urge residents to stay vigilant and report any wildlife sightings to the KWS 24-hour hotline number 0800 597 000 or WhatsApp 0726 610509 for immediate intervention,” KWS stated.

Incidents of game animals intruding into human habitats and environments have constantly been reported in the Nairobi metropolis.

Lion captured in Rongai

A few months back, KWS officers captured a stray lion that sneaked into Rongai Town.

In a tweet, the agency said the sub-adult male lion was returned safely back into the neighbouring Nairobi National Park.

The animal was spotted by members of the public around Tuskys Supermarket, where it was stuck between a concrete wall and iron sheets.

It was successfully darted, immobilised and safely transferred to the veterinary facility for observation.
