Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Mithika Linturi has survived an impeachment motion against him after the 11-member committee found the accusations unsubstantial.

The committee was investigating allegations raised by Bumula MP Jack Wamboka in a motion that was overwhelmingly voted for by the MPs.

" The allegations under ground one on gross violation of the constitution, ground two on serious reason for believing that the cabinet secretary has committed a crime under national law and ground three on gross misconduct as outlined in the special motion are unsubstantiated," said Naomi Waqo, the committee's chair.

Who are the seven MPs who saved Linturi?

The committee, that was probing his impeachment over fake fertiliser, saw seven members vote against his ouster.

Four voted for his impeachment in a special sitting convened by the National Assembly on Monday, May 13.

Led by the committee's chair, Naomi Waqo, the six other MPs who voted against Linturi's ouster include; Kitui South MP Rachel Nyamai, Ainaboi MP Samwel Chepkonga, Tharaka Nithi MP George Murugara, Malava MP Malulu Injendi, Matuga MP Kassim Tandaza and Kirinyaga MP Jane Maina.

MPs dismiss Mithika Linturi's impeachment motion

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) MP who was a member of the committee disclosed that members were carefully selected to save Linturi.

According to the MP, the dismissal was made by MPs after the motion was said to have been reduced to a relationship affair and lacked national discourse.

What to know about Mithika Linturi's impeachment

• Earlier, Linturi had attributed his impeachment motion to MP Marianne Kaitany as the force behind the motion
• Linturi said his political decision to support President Willliam Ruto made him be chased out of house that he had built for six years
• Bumula MP Jack Waboka asked Linturi to stop mentioning his ex-wife Marianne Kaitany in issues of national importance
