As of this report's filing, rescue efforts had successfully retrieved two women from the water.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that over 10 have died, while the fate of the remaining passengers remained uncertain.

"This is too bad. Waiting for like an hour could have saved them. What was the hurry for?" Kiilu lamented.

Social media reactions:

Apart from feeling sorry for the victims, Kenyans on social media condemned the driver and passengers for risking their lives.

Sheila Kwaje

"What kind of ignorance is this now? Sad, at the same time, people should be serious with life."

Sylvia Wa Mackenzie:

"Called someone at home, and it's true. Several women have been washed away. Some men held onto the tree on the right and were rescued."

Ressie Grace:

"But why are people so careless when it comes to their lives? Why should you risk being on a truck or driving it because you have to finish a job?"

Winnie Chege:

"It's so sad. I swear I would never try such a thing, I'm such a coward. There were even women onboard."
