Kisumu - A student from Maseno University has been arrested in connection with a violent robbery of two fellow students.

Jacktone Oluoch Owiti was suspected of being part of an armed gang of two that robbed their colleagues on Sunday, April 14.

Oluoch was paraded for identification and DNA sampling before he was finally arraigned in court to face charges for his alleged actions.

The police revealed that he was found in possession of a phone that was stolen when the students were robbed.

"Jacktone Oluoch Owiti was ambushed at his house in Maseno's Chulaimbo area, and one of the victims' phones which was stolen on the fateful night found in his possession," said the DCI.

DCI reported that they had also found new leads to his accomplice and are following up on the trail.

How were Maseno University students robbed?

In the April incident in the Nyawita area, two first-year students were sleeping when Oluoch and his accomplice attacked while armed with a machete and dagger.

They reportedly instilled fear in the students as they threatened to harm them if they made noise to alert their neighbours.

"Kicking the door open and threatening the fear-stricken girls with stabs should they make a murmur, the agents from hell forced themselves on the victims before disappearing with their smartphones," DCI reported.

The traumatised students waited until the assailant was out of the vicinity before screaming for help.

"After making sure that the attackers were out of vicinity, the victims screamed for help where neighbours responded by assisting them to a local hospital for medical attention," added the agency.

University girl mistakenly shot

Separately, a 21-year-old university student was nursing serious injuries after she was shot while trying to open the house of a policeman, which she thought was her boyfriend's.

Natasha Nagaya was opening a rental house that she thought was her boyfriend's, only for her to be shot by a policeman, the owner of the house.

Tebangole heard someone trying to open his door at around 4am, and in a state of confusion and suspicion, he fired three bullets through the glass window.
