On Wednesday, April 24, the Kenya Red Cross said 18 people were rescued in Mathare 4A after being stranded due to floodwaters.

Among those rescued were 11 adults and seven children trapped in the floodwaters.

"Eighteen people, including 11 adults and seven children, have just been rescued by our Red Cross Action Team in Mradi, Mathare 4A, after becoming stranded due to floodwaters caused by heavy rains last night in Nairobi," Kenya Red Cross said.

Kenya Red Cross said other life-saving interventions are ongoing in various parts of Nairobi county, which are affected by heavy rains.

"The rainfall affected numerous areas throughout the city. Other life-saving interventions are ongoing in other parts of the country," they added.

Mathare Valley destroyed by floods

As reported earlier, a video of Mathare Valley, Nairobi residents rendered hopeless and homeless following heavy rainfalls surfaced online.

The heartbreaking clip captured the desolate state of the stranded residents after the floods invaded their homes.

A young lady could be heard expressing her pain and disappointment as she panned the camera to show the massive destruction caused by the floods.

How floods are causing havoc in Nairobi county

Earlier, TUKO.o.ke reported that Nairobi is reeling from the devastating impact of heavy floods that have submerged vast areas, leaving residents distressed and calling for urgent action.

Following a night of relentless downpours on Tuesday, Nairobi residents woke up to scenes of destruction as floodwaters inundated streets, homes, and businesses.

The Kenya Red Cross Society swiftly responded, deploying a team to assess the extent of the damage and potentially launch search and rescue operations.
