The family of veteran journalist Mike Oyier has announced his burial date, with plans underway to give him a befitting send-off.

Oyier's passing was confirmed on April 20, with reports indicating that the celebrated ex-news anchor died while undergoing treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.

Various media personalities, among them veteran radio host Maina Kageni and media personality Carol Radull, led in paying their tributes on social media.

However, his family is now asking for financial help to prepare for Oyier's final send-off to the beyond.

The poster indicated that there will be a fundraiser held at All Saints Cathedral on April 30. On the same day, the journalist's family, friends and colleagues will be given the opportunity to pay their tributes.

His memorial service will also be held on May 1 at All Saints Cathedral to celebrate the 49-year-old's life.

The family also announced that the established scribe will then be laid to rest in Homa Bay on May 3.

Kenyans in the country willing to send their monetary contributions can do so via paybill 4230000 and indicate their name as the account number.

Veteran journalist Rita Tinina dies

In a similar report, another veteran journalist, Rita Tinina, was recently found dead at her home in Kileleshwa.

She was supposed to show up for work on Sunday, March 17, when she failed to turn up, promoting her colleagues to follow up.

However, an autopsy report indicated that the 47-year-old celebrated journalist died of severe pneumonia, leaving behind a daughter and her partner, Robert Nagila.
