How did Kibaki inspire Kubaff song?

Kibaki, known for his easy-going nature and lighthearted barbs targeting his detractors, popularised kubaff, an insult loosely translating into stupid.

Lucy Musa, an Australian-based Kenyan singer, has released a new music video inspired by the term.

Speak to TUKO.co.ke, Lucy said Kubaff is a song about her estranged lover. In the video, she is seen packing her clothes and leaving the man asleep before hitting the road.

“I am going away, and I won’t come back. You are (just) kubaff,” Lucy sings repetitively.

It features two TV clips, including one of Kibaki using the famous word.

“Kenyans and their culture have inspired this song. Kenyans are easy people who usually go with the flow. They quickly pick trends like they did the Kubaff trend and make fun of them without necessarily focusing on the hardships that they face.
In Kenya, people can make fun out of every calamity. This is something anyone can relate to. It’s just never that serious,” she said.

After a media tour, the songstress left Kenya for Australia in February and disclosed that she would return to Nairobi soon.

“I’m working on several music projects and involved in a forthcoming concert."

Why did Lucy Musa move abroad?

Lucy was in love and pursuing music in Kenya but suddenly went silent and moved abroad.

The songstress narrated to TUKO.co.ke how a broken heart informed her relocation.

Musa also spoke of weaving her pain into an Amapiano song called Uwiii.

According to the artiste, her heartbreaking love affair saw her live an abusive life and was scammed millions in cash.

Lucy funded the man’s lifestyle for five years, only to learn he had multiple partners.

Uwii served as a precursor for Kubaff.
