A motorist captured in a viral video punching and kicking a traffic officer on Sunday, June 2, in Mirema area has been arrested.

The video of Ian Njoroge hitting the officer, Jacob Ogendo, sparked outrage among netizens, who described his actions as completely unacceptable.

How was the Njoroge arrested?

According to a Citizen Digital report, Njoroge was apprehended at his home in the Jacaranda area of Kayole, Nairobi County, during a manhunt led by the DCI.

Before Njoroge's arrest, the incident was reported at the Kasarani police station.

Why did Njoroge beat up the Ogendo?

According to the police report obtained by TUKO.co.ke, officer Ogendo had arrested a vehicle belonging to Njoroge for violating traffic rules.

Ogendo then entered Njoroge's car and instructed him to drive to Kasarani Police Station. While en route to the police station, Njoroge drew a sword from under his seat, prompting the officer to jump out of the car.

The driver chased the officer and began assaulting him until he fell into a trench along Kamiti Road.

Members of the public rescued the officer and took him to Crestview Mother and Child Wellness Centre Kasarani before he was referred to Mama Lucy Hospital for further treatment.

Police also apprehended another suspect, Peter Kiragu, as they continued their search for Njoroge and his car.

Middle aged man arrested for assaulting a police officer

Earlier, a middle-aged man accused of insulting and beating up a police officer at the Drive Inn police station in Roysambu sub-county, Nairobi, was charged in court.

Eric Ochieng, presented before Makadara Law Courts, was reported to have assaulted Corporal Peter Karanja at his workstation on October 8, 2023.

The accused was alleged to have caused a commotion at the station when he went to follow up on a case he had filed.
