A tragic event unfolded in Waruku in Kangemi, Westlands constituency, as a devastating fire engulfed the area, leading to the heartbreaking loss of a four-year-old child.

The incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, May 1, resulting in significant property damage across the affected area, though the exact extent of the losses remains undetermined.

According to Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly, Robert Alai, the fire ravaged over 30 households and numerous shops, compounding the tragedy for the community.

"Following the fire in Waruku this evening, we have lost over 30 households and also a four-year-old baby in the inferno. RIP!" he said.

Alai pleads for help for Kangemi fire victims

As flames rapidly spread, residents desperately appealed for assistance to contain the inferno and prevent further destruction.

The MCA further urged the members of the public to assist the families affected with clothing among other household necessities.

"We are appealing for help with blankets, clothes, utensils, mattresses, food, water, and anything else you can offer to help the victims regain a semblance of normalcy in their lives" he added on his X account.

Responding promptly to the crisis, the Kenya Red Cross Society mobilised its resources and personnel to the scene, striving to provide aid and support to those affected by the disaster.

Despite swift intervention, the cause of the fire remains shrouded in uncertainty.

Fire razes down children's home in Embakasi

In another event, a night fire razed down a children's home in the Mradi area in Embakasi East constituency, rendering several orphans homeless.

The area MP Babu Owino shared the distressing news while accompanying it with a Bible quote to uplift the spirits of the affected occupants.

During the incident, a woman cried painfully while recounting the massive damage caused by the merciless flames.
