Why NPS suspended Nairobi cop

He has been identified as Corporal Haron Mwangi and is stationed at the Buruburu Police Station.

The video caught the attention of his bosses, who suspended him from work and added that he was slated for dismissal should he be rightly implicated.

"Please be informed that the National Police Service has positively identified the Traffic Police Officer seen in the video clip circulating on social media, while allegedly collecting bribes from public service vehicles.
The officer attached to traffic within Buruburu Police Station has been suspended from the Traffic Police Unit with immediate effect, and proceedings for his dismissal are ongoing," NPS said in a statement.

With the foregoing action, NPS restated its commitment to fighting corruption, stressing the highest standards of professionalism and discipline among the police, promoting accountability and transparency, and upholding the rule of law.

Mumias cop caught demanding bribe

This came days after a police officer stationed at the Mumias Police Station was caught demanding a bribe from a motorist.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) acted on the complaints filed by the motorist whose vehicle was being held based on allegations that the license plate was not visible.

The officer was escorted to the EACC Bungoma Office, where he was processed and later booked at Bungoma Police Station.

With the development, the EACC cautioned public officers against abusing their respective offices.
