A Nyandarua man has narrated how he was charged and convicted over a crime he claims he committed unknowingly after his separation from his wife.

The man, identified as Fredrick Kabiri, narrated that after separating from his wife, he decided to try his luck in love again while living in Nyahururu.

Speaking to Inooro TV, Kabiri said his heart settled on a young lady whom he had interacted with a few times after running into her as he was going about his daily activities in the village.

"When I met her, we talked for a bit, and I asked her how old she was. She said she was 20 years old and was no longer in school," the man claimed, adding that he would go on to propose marriage after realising she was of age.

Kabiria's arrest

He was arrested on the first day that the young lady visited him at his home; that was the day all hell broke loose.

"No sooner had the lady entered my house for her first-ever visit to my house. It was just minutes, and I had not even touched her in any way when all my neighbours stormed my house and unleashed kicks and blows to me saying I intended to marry a high school student," he narrated from the Naivasha Prison where he is serving his sentence.

Police officers rescued him from the angry mob and put him inro custody.

"The mother of the girl also produced a birth certificate proving that the lady was a high student and unready for marriage. I did not remember to ask her for proof that she was still a student," the man regretted.

The man has been in prison for the past few years and is hoping to finish his sentence, integrate back into society, and finish up a house he was building.

"The only regret I have is that I was an alcoholic, and that is also how I lost my marriage with my estranged wife. I would advise everyone to avoid alcohol as it can really impair your judgement," he said.

Man narrates being arrested after night of partying

In another story, a 25-year-old man from Kerugoya in Kirinyaga also narrated how a night of partying with friends at his two-bedroomed apartment ended up with him in jail and a subsequent death sentence.

Kelvin Waruguru recalled that a little less than a year ago, he held a party with his girlfriend, his close friend who attended the bash with his lover and a couple of other people.

He was sentenced to death due to the events of that fateful evening and is currently being held at a Nyeri prison.
