President of the Kenya Universities Student Association (KUSO) Anthony Manyara has written a letter to President William Ruto asking him to increase his initial donation to Dedan Kimathi from KSh 1 million to KSh 2.9 million.

KUSO's plea to William Ruto

Manyara said if the president increases his donation to the suggested amount, students are likely to have their shared amount raised from KSh 180 to KSh 527 per student.

"With a total of 5,556 recipients the aggregate amount required to fulfill this appeal should you graciously accede settles at KSh 2,928,012 only. We anticipate your favourable consideration for this petition with gratitude," he said.

He defended his proposal by saying that the suggested amount would be reasonable for students in these tough economic times.

He further commended Ruto's gesture of gifting the institution, terming it as noble. He added that the president's deed showed that he shares the comrades' challenges and aspirations.

Allow me on behalf of KUSO to express profound gratitude for your benevolent gesture of gifting Dedan Kimathi Unversity of Technology students something for cabbage," Manyara added.

The institution went viral on Tuesday, 9 April, after a notice that the school released was shared online.

The notice indicated that Ruto had donated KSh 1 million, and the school administration intended to share it equally amongst all students in session.

In March, the president visited the university and promised to donate cash for the student's entertainment.

The students were given three choices: share the money equally, organise a luncheon, or allocate it to a student's bursary.

The students chose to share the money equally, confirming that each would receive KSh 180.

How much did Ruto give Bunyore Girls' High School?

Ruto on September 4, 2023, gave KSh 300, 000 to the principal of Bunyore Girls' High School to buy bread for students.

During his tour in Western region, President Ruto stopped near the institution, where he interacted with the students and the community.

Ruto's visit coincided with the opening day of the school, when he decided to give the school a gift.
