Who welcomed William Ruto in Washington, DC?

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed indicated that Wednesday, May 22, officially marked the beginning of Ruto's three-day state visit to the United States of America at Biden's invitation.

Ruto and Mama Rachel arrived at Joint Andrews Air Force Base, where US First Lady Jill Biden welcomed them before their scheduled events.

Ruto's arrival ceremony featured the traditional pomp and circumstance befitting a state visit, highlighting the diplomatic ties between the two nations.

What did journalist Abdikadir ask Biden?

Meanwhile, a Kenyan journalist took the spotlight at the White House by asking US President Joe Biden and Kenyan President William Ruto some tough questions.

The reporter asked Biden why the U.S. committed Kenya to Haiti while ending its peacekeeping mission worldwide.

He argued Kenya was overwhelmed as it sent troops to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), South Sudan, and Somalia.

In response to the question about the US withdrawing its military from Afghanistan, Biden stated that uniting Afghanistan was almost impossible, which is why it is referred to as the graveyard of empires.

Biden said the US wanted to assist Haiti in a way that would not suggest America was trying to impose its will on other countries.

Ruto and Obama exchange pleasantries

During the visit, Ruto met with Obama at Blair House on Thursday, May 23, and the leaders embraced and exchanged greetings in Kiswahili.

Obama conveyed sincere gratitude for the warm reception extended to him during his trips to Kenya in July 2015, while in office, and once more in July 2018, post-presidency.

In a statement, President Ruto said his conversation with Obama primarily focused on democratic developments, climate issues, and peace and security challenges in Africa.
