Kakamega: Former Sports Cabinet secretary Rashid Echesa has blamed a county governor for his latest woes.

Echesa, currently the Kenya Water Towers Agency chairman, was arrested and detained in Nairobi's Muthaiga Police Station over allegations of extorting the county boss.

What were Echesa's sensational claims against governor?

Speaking in a roadside rally in his hometown on Friday, April 12, Echesa revealed the underlying issue was birthday photos he claimed were the county boss's.

According to Echesa, the governor apprehended and coerced him to give out the photos, which he (the county boss) was worried would at some point be used to blackmail him.

He claimed the county boss locked him inside a car boot and blindfolded him, mounting pressure on him to give out the photos in question.

"The one plotting against me is the governor. I asked him why he was persecuting me. He blindfolded me and locked me inside his car boot. He asked me to produce the gadget that had his photos. I reminded him the issue of photos and videos we addressed," he claimed.

Echesa went ahead to claim a witch doctor was at the centre of the whole saga.

Farouk Kibet dragged into saga

According to him, the photos were being held by the herbalist, who wanted a certain amount of money before he could give them up.

At the same time, Echesa dragged President William Ruto's long-term aide, Farouk Kibet, into the saga.

He said Farouk was to blame for his arrest and succeeding tribulations.

The former CS pointed out the close ties he shares with Ruto's aide, highlighting their work together during the 2022 presidential campaign trail.

He urged the powerful president's right-hand man not to misuse the power and influence he has to trouble those around him.

Echesa reminded Farouk that they share a long history compared to the governor, whom he claimed they had just recently got acquainted with due to aligning interests.
