Kampala: Ugandan police have launched a probe into an incident in which a businessman was injured while fighting an armed robber.

The incident took place in Nateete, within Kampala city, on the evening of Monday, May 13, as per the time stamp on CCTV footage.

Fifty-five-year-old Turyamuhaki Sam, a resident of Kabawo Zone in Lubaga Division, was transacting at the Bashir Grain Millers outlet when he encountered the robber said to be an employee there.

Turyamuhaki was counting his money when the suspect showed up, pretending to check in his bag.

He removed a machete and hammer and wielded them, catching the attention of the businessman.

Armed with his machete, the man charged toward the businessman who dropped the cash and strategised facing off with the attacker.

Turyamuhaki managed to grab the machete from the robber but was later overpowered by the man (robber) who descended on him with the crude weapons.

"I was verifying a sum of 8 million UGX (equivalent to KSh 277,000) when an employee, Kiiza Ashiraf, entered the office with a sack,” narrated Turyamuhaki.

The 55-year-old sustained severe head injuries; the robber took off after the scuffle.

"We are investigating an incident of attempted murder," Chim Reports quoted the police in Kampala.

Exhibits, including the weapons used in the assault, were recovered as the police examined the footage.

They called on members of the public to help with information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect.
