A video of a man fighting for his life after attempting to cross a flooded river before being rescued on Tuesday, April 30 received mixed reactions on social media.

After being rescued before drowning, the man received a beating from his saviour for recklessly attempting to cross the river despite the speeding waters.

The video showed the man grabbing the victim to the safer side before starting to beat him.

Onlookers cheered after he was rescued, and online users applauded the rescuer for saving the man's life, with many disappointed by the victim's daring act.

How did Kenyans react?

Don said:

"This man was saved from a flooded river and given a beating of the season for recklessness.. this is the way."

Kijana ya baba said:

"Kenyans never learn. No one should cross over flooded rivers."

Zachary Odongo said:

"I don't have a problem with him being beaten but why start the beating while they are still in the river. Immediate punishment, kuwa fungo kwa wenye tabia kama hiyo."

The actions come after Road and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, on Monday, April 29, in Nakuru, pleaded with Kenyans to avoid engaging in activities that risk claiming lives.

What had Murkomen said?

He further urged Kenyans to follow the rules and government's directives on safety measures during this season.

"Let us all obey the rules and directives of government...don't force motorists and public vehicles because we want our people to be alive. most of those who died are because of recklessness," Murkomen said.

Murkomen was speaking in Mai Mahiu, Nakuru, after visiting the flooding scene at Old Kijabe that has claimed more than 70 lives, according to Nakuru governor Susan Kihika.
