Video: Scary Moment As Female Truck Driver Is Left Hanging On Edge Of Bridge After Accident

United States: A female truck driver has recounted the horror inside the cabin of the semi-truck she was driving.

It was on March 1 when 26-year-old Sidney Thomas veered off the Clark Memorial Bridge in Louisville, Kentucky, after a head-on collision with an oncoming pickup.

She was on a delivery assignment.

Horrific accident on Kentucky bridge

The pickup swerved while striving to avoid hitting a stalled car on the bridge above the Ohio River.

Sidney's truck hit the railings of the bridge, and the cabin was left dangling over the river.

The impact damaged other cars on the bridge.

During the arraignment of the pickup driver on May 15, a dashcam video was played before the court.

It shows Sidney calmly controlling her truck before the pickup swerves out of its lane to avoid the stalled vehicle.

She later lost her calm as she helplessly saw her truck getting off the road as if to dive into the river.

The huge body trailing the cabin was her lifeline as it held onto the railings.

It took firefighter rescuers over 40 minutes to hoist the semi's cabin and the driver to safety.

Speaking after the horrific experience, Sidney attributed everything to prayer.

"I gripped my hand on the steering and my feet in the break. I sat like that for a long time. I was trying to stay calm and hoped and prayed they would be able to get me out. I just started praying and got what I was praying for" she told WHAS 11.

Meanwhile, the pickup driver is facing wanton endangerment charges and operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

The last time a vehicle touched the edgings of a bridge, 45 people died.

It was in northern Johannesburg, South Africa, on March 28, 2024, when a bus ferrying Easter celebrants fell off the river.

What caused tragic South Africa bus accident?

The bus coming from Botswana was headed to Moria, a town in northern Limpopo province that holds a popular Easter festival.

According to witnesses at the scene, the vehicle burst into flames, landing down the bridge.

The driver of the bus lost control before diving off the Mma Matlakala Bridge down a 50-metre gorge.

An eight-year-old girl was the only survivor; she was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after the crash.
