A video of President William Ruto passionately praying for the newly graduated cadet officers in Lanet, Nakuru County, on Friday, May 31, has surfaced online.

Ruto had presided over the Cadets Commissioning Parade at the Kenya Military Academy before praying for the new officers joining the military family.

What was the nature of his prayer?

In his prayer, Ruto asked God to guide the officers in their new journey and to help them work diligently as they served the nation.

A key highlight of Ruto's prayer captured by netizens was "make them obedient to their superiors, help them to be mindful of their juniors."

"Hiyo part sasa," one user remarked.

Taking note of religious sensitivity, an X user by the name Sniper politely asked the president to use the word God generally to accommodate other religions.

"Nice prayer apart from the last part "in Jesus' name." When you give a public prayer like in this case, use "in God's name I pray," considering not all officers are Christians, some are Muslims," Sniper said.

Earlier, the president had led the officers in honouring the late Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla and other military officers who died in a chopper crash.

"As we witness the commission, we remember these gallant officers' sacrifice for Kenya. Their dedication and selflessness in the line of duty showed their patriotism and professionalism. May their legacy guide you as you commence your journey as commissioned officers. We will never forget their sacrifice," Ruto said.
