President William Ruto has promised to buy retired archbishop Joseph Kagunda a wheelbarrow as a retirement gift.

Speaking during the Sunday service at ACK Mt.Kenya West diocèse in Nyeri town, Ruto invited the archbishop at his residence at State House to pick his retirement present as a symbol of friendship.

" I thought I would buy him a car, but the congregation has beat me to it. So, for the work remaining I am going to buy him a wheelbarrow," Ruto said jokingly.

Symbolic meaning of a wheelbarrow in Ruto's govt

This is not the first time Ruto has been heard speaking about a wheelbarrow.

During his campaign for his presidential bid in the 2022 General Election, Ruto was seen riding in a wheelbarrow.

The wheelbarrow has always been tied to Ruto's support for hustlers in the country.

According to UDA party's website, the tool represents value, dignity and respect for work. It embodies the idea that all forms of labor matter, regardless of their scale or nature.

William Ruto gifts Kitui reverend a new Prado

Elsewhere, Ruto gifted a Kitui pastor a new car as his retirement gift a couple of days after he attended a thanksgiving service in his church.

The head of state graced a church service in Kitui on Sunday, October 23, 2023, where he was accompanied by other leaders, including his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

The reverend, who hosted the two top leaders, had every reason to rejoice after the president gifted him a luxurious retirement gift.

Ruto gifts man a new tuktuk

On November 30, 2023, Ruto commended a Mombasa tuk-tuk operator for embracing the hustler fund and demonstrating leniency in the repayment of loans.

Expressing delight in his consistent loyalty to the establishment, the president awarded him a brand-new tuk-tuk and an extra KSh 3000 to his savings.
