He is a placekicker who was an All-American First-Team selection by USA Today at Cantonment Tate High School. Gano played his college football at Florida State University where he won the Lou Groza Award and was a first team All-American and First-team All-ACC. He went undrafted and signed as a free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2009 before being released. Gano played for the Las Vegas Locomotives in the United Football League in 2009 and won the UFL Championship.
