“He reported to school in term two because of his illness, however, three days later the teachers called us to pick him up because he got sick due to an infection,” stated Esther.

She further revealed that Perminus suffers from leukemia.

“We went for him and took him to the cancer center for treatment, but he has never gone back to school since then. He has leukemia,” she added.

Why Wings to Fly Scholarship student is not in school

Perminus started feeling sick in 2023, but it was not clear what he was suffering from. As a result, he spent more time in hospital despite being a KCPE candidate.

He was forced to do his national exams at home due to his worsening condition and passed, scoring 375 out of 500 marks.

Due to his stellar performance, Ndungu Nyoro, a philanthropist, and his team recommended that Perminus be awarded the Wings to Fly Scholarship which was successful.

Perminus Njenga’s family seeks help for cancer treatment

Hailing from a poor background, Perminus’s mom noted that her son is currently home and is unable to get medical care due to financial constraints.

She confirmed that her son's eyes were swollen, rendering him bedridden.

“His eyes are swollen, and he cannot open them, he is in pain,” she told TUKO.co.ke.

Esther noted that the family is working to raise enough funds to get him to the hospital.

According to Ndungu Nyoro, the family requires Ksh7,500 for a PET Scan.

“I asked Mama Perminus why he hasn't been on treatment, and she told me he was supposed to go for PET Scan but they couldn't raise Ksh 7,500 required,” wrote Nyoro.

As such, the family has called on Kenyans and well-wishers to offer financial help for Perminus’s cancer treatment

The support can be channeled through Mama Perminus’s Mpesa number, 0721371084 (Esther Njenga).
