The prime suspect in the Mukuru killings, Collins Jumaisi, reportedly escaped from Gigiri police stations alongside 12 Eritrean nationals on Tuesday, August 20.
The Eritrean suspects were arrested for illegal immigration into the country.
How did Jumaisi escape from police custody?
Jumaisi and his counterparts are said to have staged the daring escape after cutting the wire mesh outside the cells.

According to a report by Citizen, the wire mesh used as their escape route is located approximately 3-4m above the ground.
The 13 suspects who escaped reportedly climbed onto the roof to access the back of the station and then fled through the fence towards Limuru Road.
By the time Jumaisi and his accomplices escaped custody, a total of 17 suspects were held at the police station. Police officers interrogated the four who did not escape.
What did Acting IG Gilbert Masengeli say?
Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli revealed that the preliminary investigation indicated the incident was an inside job.
He appeared to insinuate that police officers on duty were intentionally complacent to help the suspects, including Jumaisi, escape custody.
Following this, eight police officers including Gigiri OCS and the sub-county police commander were arrested
Gigiri police station has also been declared a crime scene, and investigations are underway.
Why was Collins Jumaisi detained?
This development follows the court's decision to allow the DCI to detain Jumaisi for an additional 30 days after his appearance in court on Tuesday, July 16.
The DCI argued that the additional time would enable them to locate witnesses and the victims' families.
The agency also stated that since the victims were scattered across the country, they would also need time for DNA sampling and an identification parade.
