Kajiado - Collins Kibet, the grandson of retired president the late Daniel Arap Moi, has been dramatically arrested.

The young Moi was reportedly arrested in Ongata Rongai after evading police officers for seven months.

The 45-year-old had been on the run, dodging arrest despite a court order mandating him to support his two children.

Kibet's arrest comes after months of frustration for both law enforcement and his former partner, Gladys Jeruto Tagi, who has been battling to secure child support.

Jeruto had accused Kibet, the son of the late Jonathan Toroitich, of neglecting their two children.

Jeruto's lawyer, Elizabeth Wangare, told Nation that the elusive Moi was arrested on Wednesday, September 18 morning, at his house.

How has Kibet evaded arrest for long?

The court, in its ruling earlier this year, had ordered him to appear for a hearing, but he repeatedly failed to show up, prompting Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibelion to issue an arrest warrant on April 30.

For months, authorities have struggled to track Kibet down, with Wangare previously telling the court that the police were facing immense difficulty in enforcing the arrest warrant.

It is believed that Kibet had been using informants and police insiders to stay ahead of the law enforcement agencies.

Kibet claims he's too broke

Earlier, Kibet told a Nakuru court that he could not pay the KSh 1 million monthly child support demanded by his estranged wife.

Kibet said he is jobless and broke and can only manage to raise the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) medical cover for his two children.

Further details captured in an affidavit tabled before Nakuru Principal Magistrate Benjamin Limo indicate that Kibet also suggested that the kids be moved to JK Primary School in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County.

Kibet added that he makes a living off help from well-wishers, who are mostly friends and relatives.

The affidavit further details that the defendant recently came out of a rehabilitation centre where he had checked in due to alcohol addiction.
