Nairobi—Senator Edwin Sifuna has warned President William Ruto against banking his hopes on his new-found friendship with former prime minister Raila Odinga.

What advice did Edwin Sifuna give to Ruto?

Speaking on Citizen TV on Thursday, August 12, Sifuna said Ruto will lose in the 2027 presidential elections despite the country's recent political realignments.

The Nairobi senator argued that Ruto should concentrate on addressing the issues raised by Kenyans.

"I want to advise President Ruto that if he does not address the issues of the people, he will still fall short in 2027," Sifuna said.

Sifuna said the deal between Ruto and Raila is not a political guarantee that the president will win the elections in 2027.

Will appointing ODM leaders help Ruto in 2027?

According to Sifuna, bringing many political parties and politicians into government does not translate into votes.

The ODM secretary general gave an example of Azimio One Kenya Coalition Party, which he said had more than 26 political parties but still lost the 2022 elections.

"I want to give the president free advice, no matter how many political parties or politicians you bring to your government. In 2022 Azimio brought together so many political parties. If you are not addressing the issues of the people, you will still come up short.
"Nobody should lie that Kenyans are happy, they are not happy and even parachuting people like Wandayi, Oparanya and Mbadi into gov't has not addressed the issues that were raised by Kenyans," the ODM secretary general said.

What Ruto said about his deal with Raila Odinga

Meanwhile, President Ruto hinted at a potential coalition with the ODM leader, which could revive the 2007 ODM Pentagon alliance ahead of the 2027 elections.

During a speech in Kakamega, Ruto emphasised that his broad-based government, which now includes former ODM party officials, is not a short-term arrangement.

This sparked speculation about a possible working relationship between the two.
