Harambee Stars made a shaky start to their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Engin Firat's side were held to a draw by Zimbabwe in Uganda and will be looking for three points when they play Namibia in their next game.

Former Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars Humphrey Mieno has shared his thoughts on Kenya's draw with Zimbabwe and the nation's AFCON hopes.

Harambee Stars dominated the ball against Zimbabwe but struggled to create clear cut goal scoring opportunities.

Firat will feel his team got away with one since the Southern Africa side created good opportunities to score. They face Namibia on Tuesday in another Group J clash.

Mieno talks Harambee Stars and AFCON

Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, Mieno said the performance wasn't that and expects Firat to correct some mistakes he saw.

"The performance wasn't bad, but we were looking to win our home games as much as we were home away from home. The expectation was to win, but we got that one point. So they'll have to build on from that, and I think the coach saw where we struggled, and hopefully, things will be better in the next game," he said.

Mieno also weighed in on Kenya's chances for the 2025 AFCON.

"There's a chance. Namibia lost their game, and we got a point. The most important thing is to get three points in the next game [vs. Namibia] and avoid defeat. If we get three points, I think we are on course."

Kenya has qualified for two AFCON tournaments in three decades, and there's expectation that with the expansion, Firat's team should qualify, per CAF Online.

The last two AFCON tournaments they played in were in 2004 in Tunisia and 2019 in Egypt.

Mulee on Harambee Stars' AFCON chances

The former Harambee Stars coach who led the team at the 2004 edition believes they have good players who can help them succeed.
