Faith Kipyegon Cruises To Victory In Rome In First Race Since Paris Olympics

• Faith Kipyegon was on top form in the women's 1500m at the Rome Diamond League on Friday evening
• The Kenyan easily won the race in 3:56.14, in her first competition since winning gold at the Paris Olympics
• She will compete in the Diamond League final and later a women's only track event in New York City in September

Faith Kipyegon produced a dominant performance to win the women's 1500m at the Rome Diamond League, her first race since making history at the Paris Olympic Games.

The Kenyan superstar crossed the finish line in 3:52.89 ahead of Freweyni Hailu and Birke Haylom of Ethiopia.

Kipyegon smashed the world record in the distance in July and is eyeing her 6th Diamond League title next month.

The 30-year-old was under pressure in the final 200m from Olympic silver medallist Jessica Hull from Australia but pulled away to win comfortably.

Kipyegon to compete at Diamond League final

Kipyegon is set to compete at the Diamond League final and a track meet in New York to conclude another historic season.

She set her first world record in Rome on June 2, 2023, clocking 3:49.11 to set a new world record. On July 7 2024, at the Paris Diamond League, she lowered it to 3:49.04.

Hailu set a personal best of 3:54.16 to finish second, while her compatriot Haylom finished in 3:54.79. Hull faded in the final stretch to finish fourth in 3:54.98.

Kipyegon was coming off a historic Olympic Games in which she won her third gold medal in the 1500m and set a new Olympic record.

Kipyegon to headline NYC event

TUKO.co.ke has also reported that Kipyegon will compete at the Athlos NYC event on September 26, shortly after the Diamond League final.

The event was created by Reddit co-founder and Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian, to grow the women's sport. It will be a women-only track event with six events.

Kipyegon's chat with Tsegay

TUKO.co.ke also reported that Kipyegon disclosed her conversation with Gudaf Tsegay after their viral tussle in the 5000m final at the Olympics.

She Kenyan said the Ethiopian knelt and apologised for the incident, which led to Kipyegon's disqualification and reinstatement.

The Ethiopian took part in the 5000m, 1500m, and 10,000m, and went home without a medal.
