Fire Erupts At Isiolo Girls High School, Dormitory Burnt

Fire has gutted down a dormitory at Isiolo Girls High School.

The Kenya Red Cross confirmed deploying its responders to the scene.

"A fire incident has been reported at Isiolo Girls High School, Isiolo County. Response teams activated," the humanitarian agency said in an X update.

What police said over Isiolo Girls School fire

National Police Service spokesperson Resila Onyango said the fire was contained.

No injuries were reported, albeit property of unknown value was reduced to ashes.

Locals were the first responders, bolstered by the Isiolo county government emergency response and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers, who showed up with a fire engine.

Governor Abdi Guyo called on the state investigators to probe the incident and establish the cause.

"I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate fire incident at Isiolo Girls tonight. My government is working tirelessly to mobilize all necessary emergency responders to the scene, even as I urge the security team to establish the cause," he said via X.

The fire came two days after another one in a Nyeri school.

How many learners died in Endarasha Academy fire?

At least 16 pupils have lost their lives in the devastating tragedy at Hillside Endarasha Academy Primary School.

The fire ravaged the school's dormitory, where the children were sleeping, resulting in the unimaginable loss of life.

Five other learners died while in hospital.

Nyeri County Police Commander Benjamin Rotich revealed that the 14 other students had sustained serious injuries at the scene.

William Ruto's directive after Endarasha Academy fire

Reacting to the incident, President William Ruto ordered action by the relevant agencies to establish what led to the fire.

While comforting the bereaved with his condolence message, the president said all those found culpable would be held to account.

He charged the Ministry of Interior under Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to expedite the probe into the incident.
