The coastal city witnessed the last farewell for Hasmukh Hasuu Kanji Patel, the owner of Mombasa Cement.

In a grand convoy that speaks volumes of the respect and admiration he earned, a convoy of vehicles snaked their way through the city’s streets.

The mourners came out in droves to honour the revered billionaire whose legacy extends far beyond his business empire.

A beautifully decorated truck adorned with flowers and tributes led the solemn procession.

As the procession wound through the city, residents lined the streets, some holding flowers, others with heads bowed in silent prayer.

The mood was one of profound sorrow but also celebration—a celebration of a life lived with purpose and generosity.

What killed Hasuu Patel?

The massive turnout told the story of a man who touched the lives of many in the community.

From business associates to beneficiaries of his numerous charitable endeavours, the large turnout reflected the widespread grief felt across Mombasa.

Hasuu, who died on August t the age of 58, was a prominent tycoon and a beacon of hope for the less fortunate.

He reportedly started complaining of stomach pains and was rushed to Premier Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.

Hasuu Patel the philanthropist

Before his demise, the wealthy industrialist was a philanthropist extraordinaire.

His philanthropic work, which included donations to schools, hospitals, and community projects, significantly impacted countless lives.

He established the Sahajanad Feeding Centre, which provided free meals to the poor.

In addition, he founded the Sahajanand Special School to offer education and basic needs to 5,000 pupils from humble backgrounds.

Apart from his business empire, he was the director of Corrugated Sheets Limited in Kenya and Tororo Cement Limited in Uganda.

As the coastal city bids farewell to the philanthropist extraordinaire, many will hold memories of his kindness for generations to come.
