Kakamega youth leader Ian Washika is fulfilled after several hospitals in Kakamega County were supplied with medicine.

Why is Washika fulfilled?

Washika has been at the forefront of championing better healthcare services in the county, and his efforts are seemingly bearing fruits.

On Wednesday, August 21, Washika told TUKO.co.ke that after his repetitive calls, the Kakamega County Referral Hospital had received medicine worth KSh 34 million.

"After my oversight role as a distinguished Youth leader of Kakamega on the state of Health in Kakamega in particular Kakamega County Referral Hospital, Chief Officer of Health Hon Alilah has acted swiftly, and it has received medicine worth KSh 34 million," Washika said.

Washika thanked Alilah for his swift move in ensuring major hospitals in the county get a boost in medical supplies.

"To CEC youth, Mandela, the baton is on you, you must deliver to the youths of Kakamega," said Washika.

As earlier reported, in July, the youthful politician led the young populace in the county in a mega peaceful demonstration that sought to bring to light the state of healthcare in the county.

According to the demonstrating youths, the health system was failing, claiming most hospitals lacked medicine and essential equipment, adding that patients were dying due to what they termed as incompetent doctors.

The young Kenyans expressed their fears over the then imminent collapse of health services in the county.

Washika resigns from UDA party, supports Gen Z

Earlier, Washika, a former staunch supporter of the UDA party in Kakamega County, left the party.

Washika also revealed that he had withdrawn from the UDA party youth leadership race, where he was a leading candidate, citing the controversial Finance Bill 2024 being advanced by the current administration.

The upcoming politician with ambitions to vie for the Kakamega senatorial seat said he had ditched the party as a way of standing with the young generation that is protesting against the bill.
