Nairobi - The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has notified motorists of an oncoming traffic disruption on a section of Mombasa Road.

Why a section of Mombasa Road will be closed soon

There is a planned construction of a footbridge foundation near the Syokimau Railway Station, which will occasion the closure of the section.

Motorists will not use the section for 32 days.

KeNHA said the works will kick off on Friday, September 20, until October 22.

However, the closure will only affect motorists headed to Nairobi.

"KeNHA wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Syokimau Railway Station, will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi-bound lanes from Friday, September 20, 2024, to Tuesday, October 22, 2024," the agency said.
"This is to allow for realignment of the road and construction of a mid-span footbridge foundation at the median between the Nairobi bound lanes and the adjacent Nairobi Expressway fence," it added.

KeNHA devised a traffic management plan which will help the motorists in the affected lanes.

The agency said traffic marshals will be deployed to control the flow of the vehicles.

When else was Mombasa Road closed?

This would not be the only time KeNHA closed a section of Mombasa Road for construction and maintenance.

In May this year, the agency sanctioned a three-day closure of a section near Imaara Mall.

KeNHA stated that the closure was to pave the way for the installation of culverts and the reinstatement of the affected sections.

At the time, the authority urged motorists to use the two through lanes, approach the affected sections with caution, and follow traffic signs and guidance from traffic police and marshals.
