Kepher Okoth Ooko from Migori county is the latest millionaire in town after winning the grand prize of KSh 5 million from Safaricom, the giant telecommunications company.

How did Kepher Ooko win KSh 5m?

Safaricom declared Ooko, a boda boda mechanic, the winner in the Shinda Mamilii Kama Bingwa promotion on Friday, September 6.

In addition to clinching the grand prize, the telco gave him an additional KSh 1 million to support a community project of his choice in his home area of Kanga.

"Today, Kepher Okoth Ooko’s life took a remarkable turn! This motorcycle mechanic from Migori county has won KSh 5 million in the #ShineKenya #ShindaMamiliiKamaBingwa promotion," Safaricom posted on its X handle.

The 24-year-old won the amount after purchasing KSh 20 data bundles, which gave him entry into the draw.

How will Kepher Ooko spend the millions?

According to Safaricom, the mechanic will open a new garage, build his dream home, and start a transport business.

He will spend the additional KSh 1 million to renovate classrooms and provide clean water to his community.

"Kepher’s dreams are now coming to life. He's set to open a new garage, build his dream home, and start a transport business, all while giving back to his community by renovating classrooms and providing clean water with the additional KSh 1 million," Safaricom explained.

Which other Kenyans won Safaricom prizes?

In related news, Safaricom announced Naomi Cherono Kosiom from Bomet and Margaret Wamaitha Kanjabi from Naivasha as the winners of KSh 1 million each in the ongoing Shinda Mamilii Kama Bingwa promotion.

Both winners received an additional KSh 250,000 to fund community development projects of their choice, highlighting the promotion's impact on local communities.
